Checking In With Scotty James

Transfer | Richie Carroll

Scotty James has over the past few years infiltrated the international snowboard scene by storm, scoring himself a bronze medal in the 2016 Aspen X Games halfpipe event and winning the 2015 halfpipe world title in Austria.

Recently Scotty has managed to find more time in between his hectic competition schedule to travel to powder filled freeride destinations with some of the best snowboarders in the world to film and shoot photos.Good on him.

We caught up with Scotty to have a quick chat about his new video series and what he’s up to this Northern Hemisphere winter. You can watch the first episode of the ‘All Day SJ’ series below. It’s a healthy mix of humour, good times and no snowboarding as of yet…but where he’s heading over the next few months, it sounds like it’s a series to keep bookmarked.

Scotty! What have you been up too so far this season?
Was a slow start to the season with Dew Tour being cancelled due to the lack of snow, but, I’ve been riding as much as I can. In Mt Bachelor right now, before I head to Switzerland for the LAAX Open.

Big plans on the competition circuit again this season?
Yeah it’s a big year for comps…Olympic qualifying year as well as all the World Snowboard Tour events. I’m heading into a good three months of non-stop travelling and competing.

Sounds like you’re going to be a busy man! We’ve seen more and more photos and footage come out from you over the past couple years. Are you planning on keeping up the free riding and filming?
Luckily for me my brother loves traveling and filming so he has been on board for a couple seasons now documenting everything. We’re primarily filming for a new web series called ‘All Day SJ’, which is a piss take comedy. We love the humour of the office TV show and implemented that into my life of snowboarding, competitions and travelling. There’s some good riding in there and lots of laughs throughout the series.

What are the plans for the rest of the season?
Competing, traveling, filming and trying to get some photos along the way.

Best resort you’ve hit so far this winter?
I went to Baldface in British Columbia with the Volcom crew earlier in the year and it was awesome. Too early in the season to get good snow but a place I’ve always wanted to go. Next time I go I’m making sure there’s some snow in the forecast.
