We can almost smell the fluorocarbon hitting the swix – the 9th annual Transfer Banked Slalom is going down very soon and despite the low tide conditions we’re seeing across the entire country, the event has the green light and anticipation has never been higher. It’s almost race day – here’s everything you need to know about the tournament of turns.
The event is now all sold out! Once again we’ve got a stacked field of competitors with confirmed riders including Olympians Scotty James, Valentino Guseli, Tess Coady, Jarryd Hughes, Josie Baff, Belle Brockhoff and Ben Tudhope, last year’s men’s champion Robbie Walker and the founding father of the Banked Slalom in Australia, 62-year-old Ashley Muller just to name a few. Ages 6 to 62, it’s incredible to see so many snowboarders of all ages and abilities gearing up to hit the start gate – a huge thank you to all riders that have entered!
On Thursday, August 10th, make sure you drop in to ESS Boardstore from 6-8pm for the Transfer x ESS Wax Night with thanks to Sims Snowboards. Tune up your stick, grab a beer and a slice of pizza and start laying down some wagers for race day. You can also pick up your race-plate here, but official plate collection is at Friday Flat from 7:30am-8:30am on Friday, August 11th.
Post-race on Friday, our mates at Pirate Life will be putting on some beers at Friday Flat Bistro for you to debrief and comb through the official times to see who owe who what. Grab a tin, watch the presentations and ask the Olympians how you can go faster next year.
The official Transfer Banked Slalom merchandise has created a bit of a legacy over the years, and this year is no different with racers each receiving a limited-edition TBS t-shirt designed by long-time Transfer contributor, illustrator and former editor Louis Macindoe, plus some other useful bits and pieces to take home.
And the trophies? You’ll just have to wait and see.
It’s almost race day – fire up the iron, sharpen your edges, ride hard and take risks.
See you in the start gate!
