IT’S ON | TRANSFER BANKED SLALOM 10, THIS FRIDAY – What You Need to Know

The Tournament of Turns is taking place this week, here's what you need to know.

It’s here, the week’s arrived and this Friday at Thredbo Resort, the Transfer Banked Slalom will be going down. So let’s dive through the smoke of fluorescent wax and into the proceedings of the tenth Tournament of Turns.

ARBOR PRE-WAX NIGHT & BBQ
6 – 8 pm, Thursday Night (15-08-24)
@ ESS Jindabyne

Bring your deck down to ESS Jindabyne for a complementary lick of wax thanks to our friends at Arbor Snowboards, who’ll be running a BBQ to those in need of a feed. This inaugural gathering has become a cornerstone of the Transfer Banked Slalom, with it being the pinnacle of shit-talking, impulsive purchases and personal viewing of Adrian Borcherds beard.
Pluck a Pirate Life beer from the Yeti esky and make your final offering to the gods of speed, this sacrilegious gathering of speed freaks is open to all.

TRANSFER BANKED SLALOM 10
7 am – 3 pm Friday (16-08-24)
@ Thredbo Resort

The 10th year is here, and the course for the Transfer Banked Slalom is being carved from the natty ebbs and flows of Thredbo’s playground racecourse area – the traditional home of the TBS.

Here’s the sticky:
Bib and Timer Collection: 4-5 pm (THURS), 7:15 – 8:30 am (FRIDAY), @ Friday Flat Bistro
Practice: 9am – 10:15 am
Timed Run 1: 10:30 am – 12:30 pm (in Bib order)
Timed Run 2: 12:30 – 2:30 pm (in Bib order)
*HELMETS ARE COMPULSORY FOR COMPETITORS*

For those unfamiliar with the location of the course, all you need to do is find your way up to the Cruiser Chairlift, and you’ll soon be soaring above the course. Spectating is as much a part of the racing and every year, a boisterous crowd of strangely dressed snowboarders gather in droves at the gates and in crews down the course, yelling profanities. This year is no different.
Up the top of the course will be the TBS pit, brimming with boarding wares, beers and smoking wax irons and familiar faces. There will be loot to be won, wares to be experienced and most importantly Mark Cowlely will be critiquing everyone’s wax jobs.
Racing will take place over two timed runs, best run counts. Once wrapped we’ll be heading down for the Pirate Life presentation and after-party.

PIRATE LIFE PRESENTATION & AFTERPARTY
3:30 – 6pm, Friday (After the race)
@ Merritts Mountain House

With the racing run and done, we head to Merritts Mountain House to hand in our timing chips and collect the annually anticipated Transfer Banked Slalom Tee, which is strictly limited to competitors. A cohesive gathering of well-lubricated snowboarders ensues, Pirate Life cans are clinked, objects thrown and the fastest snowboarders in the southern hemisphere will be crowned.
Things get a bit blurry by this stage, as hordes head to the ‘after’ Afterparty … with this all taking place down in Jindabyne at Holly Go Lightly, from 7pm-ish with a couple of Pirate Life kegs to boot. Numbers will be limited, so following in the day’s tradition, move fast on it.

We’ll see you Thursday night.
