Somewhere between a snowboard race and a cult gathering, where duct tape holds together everything from boots to egos and legends are born in the berms, the Transfer Banked Slalom turns 11 this August. Eleven. That’s one more than ten years of speed, style, spilled beers and gloriously questionable decisions in the snow.

This is the anti-competition competition. Less FIS points, more party laps. No lycra. No rules, really. Just a bunch of humans chasing a time down a hand-dug course with names like “Open Men’s” and “Legends” slapped on top like a badly waxed rental board.

Friday August 15 is the date. Thredbo’s the place. Mark it, tattoo it, spray paint it on your van… just get there. Because once the snow starts flying and the gates drop, the only thing that matters is how fast you can hold an edge and how long you can hold your beer after.
Don’t forget to drop your board in for a wax the night before at ESS Jindabyne from 6pm! Beers, BBQ and HOT WAX.

And the names. Oh, the names. Over the years we’ve had:
Scotty James, with the steeze turned up to eleven.
Torah Bright, grinning like she owns the hill (because she kind of does).
Terje Haakonsen, sliding in hotter than a boot dryer fire.
Matty Gallina, who may or may not have built 90% of the course with a hangover.
Austen Sweetin, who made the berms blush.
Chumpy, whose spirit still rips every line.
Nicolas Muller, bring him back!
And confirmed for this year, Bryan ‘Guch’ Iguchi is dropping in for a chance at the podium.

There are categories, sure. Open Men. Open Women. Groms. Masters. But don’t get it twisted… the real comp is between your current self and the you who thought you could take that last corner at full speed. You probably can’t. But that’s not the point.
The course? Handcrafted chaos. A ribbon of rollers, berms and surprise features stitched together by maniacs with shovels and vision. The result? Something between a racetrack and a dream. Or maybe a nightmare. Depends how you go.

At the finish line: cheering, heckling, cowbells, maybe a few medics. And at the bar after? Stories retold, beers raised, egos bruised but not broken. It’s a PARTY.

This is not a drill. This is the Transfer Banked Slalom.
And you need to register now, because this thing sells out faster than dignity at a season opener.
