There was a time when humans lived simply.

Just tribes gathering in the mountains, pointing themselves downhill and seeing who could make it to the bottom the fastest.

In many ways, very little has changed.

On September 5, the Transfer Banked Slalom returns to Thredbo for its 12th year, bringing together snowboarders from every corner of the country and a fair few from overseas… for what has become the biggest celebration of snowboarding on the Australian calendar.

This year’s theme? The Stone Age.

A fitting tribute to a community that still believes spending all day sliding sideways down frozen water is a worthwhile pursuit.

As always, the event welcomes everyone. Olympians. Weekend warriors. Industry lifers. Future stars. Former stars. People who trained all winter. People who haven’t stretched since 2019.

If you snowboard, you’re invited.

And for the legends who’ve somehow survived decades of snowboarding, questionable equipment choices and various impacts with the earth, we’ve introduced a brand-new category for 2026:

The 50+ Stone Ages Division!

Because age is temporary. Style is forever.

The festivities begin on Friday, September 4, with the legendary ESS WAX Night, where boards get tuned, stories get taller and the tribe officially assembles before battle.

Then on Saturday, it’s all systems go as riders drop into the banks chasing glory, bragging rights and the increasingly valuable currency of snowboard storytelling.

Once the final racer has crossed the line, attention turns to the presentation and afterparty at Thredbo’s iconic Alpine Bar, presented by Pirate Life and supported by Volcom.

And frankly, it’s ridiculous.

Goons of Doom are playing.

Hockey Dad are playing.

The beers will be cold. The dance moves will be questionable. The memories will become increasingly unreliable as the evening progresses.

Alongside the racing, expect a stacked weekend of activations, giveaways, special guests, industry legends and some of the biggest names in snowboarding from both Australia and abroad. Huge thanks to our sponsors Arbor Snowboarding, YETI, Sunbum, Pirate Life Beer, Volcom and Thredbo.

The Transfer Banked Slalom has never really been about who wins.

It’s about the gathering.

It’s about seeing old friends.

It’s about meeting new ones.

It’s about celebrating a culture that somehow survives every trend, every season and every prediction of its demise. Transferites UNITE!

The tribe gathers once a year. Don’t get left in the cave.
