Another weekend, another event! The countdown is on as the Beijing Olympics kick off on 4 February. Putting yourselves in the boots of the top dogs, it’s a high risk to be competing at high level events from now prior to the Olympics. Shit doesn’t always go to plan in the air or sliding steel.
Due to the X Games being so close to the Olympics, there’s only 43 riders in total across Slopestyle, Big Air, Halfpipe and Knuckle Huck.
There’s still some heavy hitters in the mix – Mark McMorris, Jamie Anderson, Anna Gasser, Ayumu Hirano, Scotty James, Zoi Sadowski-Synnott, Annika Morgan, Red Gerard, Jake Canter, Maddie Mastro, Stale Sandbech, Brock Crouch.
Both Tess Coady and Valentino Guseli from AUS will be competiting, looking to come in hot off the back of a succesfull Laax Open event. Tess taking out gold in Slopestyle and Valentino coming in 5th in the halfpipe. We can wait for the Tess & Zoi showdown.
However looking at this clip below, Anna Gasser means business and is hungry for a win leading into the Olympics.
Scotty James had a tough run at the Laax Open last week, however he has come out on social media claiming this is ‘redemption’ week. With no Shaun White it’s set to be a showdown between Ayumu, Scotty, Jake Canter and young aussie Valentino Guseli who shows no signs of holding back in his first X Games appearance!
Now time to plan your weekend viewing. In true X Games style, they are only streaming a handful events free for the public. If you have ESPN, you’re sorted, if not you’ll have to stay up to date here with our event coverage.
