It’s Always Sunnier In Queenstown: Mt Dobson

Roland Morley Brown returns with another one of his iconic NZ missions

Words: RMB

Welcome back to another Southern Hemisphere Season 2024.

After sitting around and literally twiddling my thumbs in Queenstown for the past month, we have finally received some snow. To maximise, I decided to roll the dice and take a little chance and hit up a strike mission to Mount Dobson.

My rough plan was to head out of Queenstown, drive to somewhere around the Tekapo area and camp there overnight, then the next morning get up into Mount Dobson and have a little hike out the back into a zone I know and where I have an idea of a couple of lines that I want to do.

Although the snow conditions weren’t the best, it was an excellent mission and it felt so good to finally get out amongst the mountains and hike some lines for the first time this NZ season.

Ticking this one off has definitely made me excited for more and I can’t wait for the next adventure.
