7th Annual Transfer Banked Slalom | The race of the year is back…August 13!

The countdown is on! Everything you need to know for the 7th Annual Transfer Banked Slalom...

The Transfer Banked Slalom is back! On Friday August 13 Thredbo Resort is going to be the Wild West with the Banked Slalom back after a year hiatus. Click here to register now…

More than just a race, this is a gathering of the snowboard tribe for a few days of racing, hot lapping, tweaking, partying and so much more. There is no other event on the Australian Snowboarding calendar that’s capable of bringing so many generations together to compete on the one course, on the one day, and in the spirit of one event.

For those who don’t know, the Transfer Banked Slalom sends snowboarders down a hair-raisingly long course of winding banked berms, rollers, through a leg-burning gully and then slingshots them out of the bottom of the course where they are awarded a time. It’s a unique test of snowboard skill, and one that’s looked forward to by our top professional snowboarders and weekend-hacks alike – it’s an event format that is proudly unique to snowboarding.

The battle of the best of the best, and the worst of the worst. Previous winners of the Transfer Banked Slalom include the G.O.A.T Terje Haakonsen, Austen Sweetin, Nate Johnstone, Scotty James, Mathieu Crepel, Torah Bright…who’s taking out the top spot this year?!

The festivities kick off the night before the big race on. Thursday August 12 SIMS Snowboards are hosting a wax night at ESS Boardstore in Jindabyne from 6.30 – 8pm. Thanks to both SIMS & ESS all competitors are invited to get a free race WAX, talk some shop and enjoy beers thanks to Pirate Life and Red Bulls to fuel the adrenaline. This ain’t your regular wax, we’ve got an expert wax tech on hand, so you’re flying out of that start gate.

Then on Friday 13th the race begins with practice kicking off at 9am and racing starting at 10:30am up at Merritts in Thredbo. There will be a BBQ for all competitors with run number two kicking off at roughly 12:30pm and running until 2.15.

The official presentation and after party thanks to Pirate Life kicks off from 2:30pm at the Merritts Mountain House Deck where there will be beers, live music and good times up till 6pm! Ride the Gondola back down to base…styling.

What do the podium winners score? There’s a bunch of incredible prizes this year, with limited edition Akubra hats for the top 3 in the adult categories! Plus some rad G-SHOCK watches for the juniors and groms. Plus watches for the biggest stack and who gets bucked the hardest!

Plus beyond the podium winners, SIMS is on the hunt for the Transfer Spirit Award hooking up the races who is embracing every element of the event with a new board – SIMS ATV.

For all those riders currently affected by the travel restrictions, we know this means you’ll most likely have to miss this years race. We’re really bummed for you! The event is all about the community and we looked at a bunch of options with Thredbo. Unfortunately we couldn’t find a new date that would guarantee everyone could make it. So the race must go on!!!
