Competitive snowboarding is back. Laax Open last week and now we’re heading into another weekend of heated battle. With some big names in attendance like Shaun White (no X Games medal since 2013), Red Gerard, Zoi Sadowski-Synnott, Hailey Langland, Chloe Kim (2018 & 2019 Snowboard SuperPipe gold medalist), Scotty James (defending two-time Snowboard SuperPipe gold medalist), Yuto Totsuka, Anna Gasser (defending XG Norway Big Air gold medalist) and more.
It’s going to be a little different this year…no crowds, no parties. What impact will this have on the riders in competition? Less hangovers is a positive, but no crowd to amp you up is a low.
Saturday is the JEEP Men’s Snowboard Slopestyle and Pacifico Women’s Snowboard Big Air, before moving into the Monster Energy Women’s Snowboard SuperPipe.
Our money is on Stale to take out the slopestyle, amped up after missing out on competing in the Laax Open due to an ankle injury.
We’re backing both Anna Gasser and Zoi Sadowski-Synott for the Women’s Big Air. Anna is defending gold champ from X Games Norway and is riding solid on the board.
For the Women’s Super Pipe event, our money is on Chloe Kim. She’s only just returned back from competition since March 2019! Taking out the Laax Open…Her board is looking to be posted up on the top podium.
On Sunday, it is stacked with Monster Energy Men’s Snowboard SuperPipe, The Real Cost Men’s Snowboard Big Air and Wendy’s Snowboard Knuckle Huck.
We’re backing Scotty James hard to take out the three-peat X Games gold in the Super Pipe. It’s going to be a battle with Shaun, Yuto and more chasing his golden dreams.
Big Air we would normally go McMorris but he’s out due to COVID. So the gold is up for grabs and is really anyone’s for the taking. Marcus Kleveland is our guy.
Knuckle Huck…Zeb Powell is out. So we going double up with Kleveland.
Cool thing for the Super Pipe to note is both the men’s and women’s final will feature a 30-minute jam session where eight riders will be ranked based on overall impression. Riders are judged on progression, execution, difficulty, variety and amplitude.
